After Christ was crucified, his friends pleaded with Pilate to take away His body to be buried. They brought a mixture of myrrhs, aloes, and aromas, and “then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen clothes with the spices.” Jesus was then laid to rest in a garden tomb.
The dove in this illustration represents Jesus Christ, who is surrounded with the herbs he was buried with— cedar wood, frankincense, aloe, myrrh, and sandalwood.
